2026-2027 enrolling Kindergarten students must be 5 years old as of 10/01/2021.

- Current MSSD14 5th Graders should submit application by February 1, 2026 for priority placement.

- Program total is capped at 48 students.

- There is a $100 program fee (can be paid in two installments, scholarships available for families in need).

The purpose of this agreement is to ensure that families, students and teachers consider all components of the Mountain Academy of Arts and Sciences as they consider 6th grade.  The classroom environment will look different, and families and students will be held to the program's expectations.  Please read through and agree to each statement below with your child.

• The Mountain Academy of Arts & Sciences is designed as an experience-based program with an emphasis on environmental education, science, and environmental leadership.  Students acknowledge that they have a strong interest in learning and engaging in these concepts.

• Students receiving education support services (GATE, interventions, Special Education, etc.) are subject to additional review for appropriate placement.  Additionally, the services they have received in the past may be delivered in a different manner while attending the Mountain Academy of Arts & Sciences.

• We acknowledge that students may participate in MSMS sports, and after school activities.  Please consider the following: transportation may not always be provided; some sporting events may conflict with educational experiences and may require the student to make up missed work at home or miss the event.

• We acknowledge that the MAAS involves spending significant time outdoors throughout the school year.  A high threshold for the outdoor environment is necessary.  This includes varying weather conditions and physical activity, and exposure to environmental allergens (pollen, insects, plants, etc.).

• We acknowledge that all 6th grade students participate in band for the entire school year.  The commitment requires students to practice their instruments at home and attend 2 evening concerts.  Students will be loaned an instrument for the year.  Families are responsible for the replacement of lost items or repairs of damaged items.

• We acknowledge that student safety is a priority of the program, and the ability to attend various trips is dependent upon meeting school behavior and attendance expectations and subject to being revoked by building administration and MAAS staff.

Students attending the Mountain Academy of Arts & Sciences are expected to take part in a variety of learning activities related to their local natural environment, community, and environmental leadership.  This essay is meant to have students express their interests in the program with both parents and teachers.  It will not be used to decide acceptance to the program.

• My Choice application will be reviewed only after the application has been fully completed and received by the District Registrar.  The District Registrar is the only person that can accept choice applications.
• This approved Choice application will be valid for attendance at the requested school and that each year my choice enrollment status will be reevaluated.  My approved Choice application for one level (e.g.,elementary, middle or high) does not guarantee an approved Choice application at the next level.
• Approval of child's Choice application is based upon space available in the receiving school and the resources available to serve your child.
• I understand that transportation to and from school will be my responsibility.  District transportation is not provided.
• The district's decision as to whether to accept my child's enrollment is dependent upon my truthful response to all questions asked herein.  Therefore, if my child is granted permission to in enroll in the District, it shall be on a conditional basis; and in the event the District should subsequently determine that one or more answers provided were untruthful, with respect to denial reason in #3 and #6, the District in its sole discretion may revoke this conditional admission.
• Manitou Springs School District 14 has the right to deny admission to any student that has been expelled from this or any other district within the last 12 months, or who has been expelled as a habitually disruptive student or for a serious violations necessitating mandatory expulsion, or has behaved in a manner that is detrimental to the welfare or safety of other pupils or of school personnel(C.R.S. 2-33-106(1) (c.5) (d), (1.2) F. (C.R.S. 22-36-101 (3) a-e).
