Residency Verification

Illinois law requires all students to reside in the school district that they attend. District 58 requires all new families to provide three forms of residency proofs during the registration process.

Verifying residency is an effort to protect taxpayers and district resources by identifying non-residents attending District 58 schools. Illinois law mandates that parents demonstrate residency prior to enrollment in school and allows for periodic verification to validate compliance with the law.

New families are required to provide the following. You may upload these documents on the "Document Uploads" page of this registration portal, or you may submit these files directly to school, either in person, by mail or by email.

  1. ONE of the following: driver's license or state ID (to prove identity)
  2. ONE of the following: homeownership title/deed, homeowners insurance, renter insurance, apartment lease with full name and current address
  3. ONE of the following: either a current gas, water or electric bill with full name and current address.

All new students must submit the three proofs of residency to their new school before the first day of school.

Birth Certificate

You are required to provide a paper certified copy of your student's birth certificate to your school office by the first day of school. You can either bring the paper birth certificate to your child’s school in person, or you can mail it. Schools are open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. School offices are closed during spring break, holidays and summer break (from mid-June through the end of July).

Students Who are Homeless

If you are homeless, and/or do not own or rent the residence listed above, please contact your child's school.

A homeless child may attend the District school that the child attended when permanently housed or in which the child was last enrolled. A homeless child living in any District school's attendance area may attend that school. Students who qualify as homeless will not be verified; however, families should complete this process and work with their school team to remove any enrollment barriers.
